The Perth Mint
The Perth Mint, founded in 1899, is Australia's official precious-metals refiner and mint. It is an LBMA Good Delivery refiner. It strikes the Gold and Silver Kangaroo, the Lunar series (one design per Chinese zodiac year), and the Kookaburra, all at .9999 fineness. Owned by the Government of Western Australia.
Perth Mint is one of only a handful of mints in the world that is both a sovereign mint AND an LBMA Good Delivery refiner. Its kilo bars and cast bars are used in the wholesale market; its sovereign coins target the retail bullion market.
The Lunar Series is the longest-running themed bullion-coin series globally: a 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac animals, with each year's design retired at year-end. Older popular years (Dragon, Tiger) trade well above spot in the secondary market.
Perth Mint coins all qualify for Australian GST exemption as investment-grade (≥99.5% gold or ≥99.9% silver).
